La Crema is probably the most well-known non-Kendall-Jackson. Julia’s father, Jess Jackson bought the brand in 1993 with the help of winemaker, Dan Goldfield in order to improve its quality. La Crema was founded in 1979. However, at that time, there was very little knowledge of how to effectively process wine in the cold climate of the Russian River Valley. As a result, the first few vintages of La Crema were devoted to experimenting with that.
