Larkin & Lacey as the Frontier Advocates for Civil, Human and Migrant Rights

Michael Lacey is an American mathematician born on 1959. He is the managing partner of Dentons; a company based in Cairo. Michael studied at the University Illinois where he received a P.h.D. in Mathematics. Michael, later on joined journalism where he partnered with James Larkin, an Irish labor organizer who was also an activist.

Apart from being a labor organizer, Larkin was also the founder of the Irish Transport and General Workers Union who believed workers were being treated unfairly. Together, James Larkin and Michael Lacey formed an alliance to fight for the human rights.

Lacey and Larkin founded Phoenix New times and Village Voice Media after being arrested for revealing the existence of grand jury, which sought reporters covering Arpaio.

However, they sued the county and later on received a compensation of $3.75million, which they used to fund groups that advocate for human rights such as CHRLA. Among the groups they supported was “La Linea Fronteriza” a Mexican group located in Tucson, Arizona. The group works with forensic scientists and humanitarians to stop deaths and suffering at the U.S.-Mexican border and its environs.

Civil, human, and migrants rights were developed to aid small groups and those unable to fight for their rights in a manner that is right and just according to the law.

Jim Larkin and Mike Lacey have been the frontiers in many groups advocating for human rights, they support civil participation and have never feared speaking for their own rights. In support to the many groups they worked with, they also made use of the Civil Liberties Union, ACLU, which under the United States law worked to defend individual rights.

Larkin & Lacey Frontera Fund

The fund came after Sheriff Joe Arpaio arrested Larkin and Lacey in 2007. The money got after suing the county was enough to start the Larkin and Lacey Frontera Fund and support other humanitarian groups in the fight for equal rights and fair treatment.

They managed to attract many donors from all over the world for the good work they were doing. Apart from attracting donors, there were other similar organizations formed as a result such as “Angeles de Frontera,” a Mexican name to mean Border Angels. Just like their equal opponents, they focused on immigrants rights. The duo has, as a result attracted many supporters across the world.
